Master Kiash Biswas, 4 yr old boy was admitted at Charnock Hospital with past history of right-sided tendo achilles lengthening. He was operated by Dr Abhishek N K Saha for surgical correction of right sided developmental dysplasia of the hip. In post-operative period, he developed fever which was managed and the child was discharged in stable condition. Thanks to our doctors, nurses and technicians for making this operation successful.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a health problem of the hip joint. It’s when the joint hasn’t formed normally, so it doesn’t work as it should.
In a normal hip joint, the top (head) of the thighbone (femur) fits snugly into the hip socket. In a child with DDH, the hip socket is shallow. As a result, the head of the femur may slip in and out. It may dislocate. This means it moves partly or completely out of the hip socket.
DDH is a common and preventable cause of childhood disability. Unfortunately, a late diagnosis of the condition leads to a higher chance of needing surgery and a higher risk of long-term complications.
