Right from the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis in Kolkata in March 2020, Charnock Hospital has been working as a prominent place for the treatment of patients suffering from the deadly infection. As per the directives of the State Government, the hospital started operating as a COVID hospital in the latter half of 2020. The Hospital responded faster to come up with all the necessary facilities as suggested by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the official government body that is fighting relentlessly to overcome COVID-19 in the country. Right from in-house RT-PCR COVID testing to complete treatment of the patient, Charnock Hospital has been successful in providing the most outstanding treatment to the patients that reach from all parts of Kolkata and its suburbs.
The Hospital has world-class amenities that helped it to become the most dedicated COVID hospital in Kolkata in West Bengal. To take additional responsibilities to the patients suffering from this disease, the Hospital has annexed the Haj House near Newtown, Kolkata, to convert it into a COVID treatment center as a PPP model with the Government of West Bengal. This annexed part started operating with 90 beds on May 1, 2021. The hospital managing committee plans to extend this part further to make it a 300-bed COVID hospital soon. This segment under Charnock Hospital is having all the necessary support facilities along with LMO plant and Oxygen Manifolds to tackle the high Oxygen demand for this present COVID scenario. On June 1, 2021, Charnock Hospital has taken another joint initiative with Kanehiyalall Lohia Trust and initiated up to 100 beds of Satellite Health Care Facilities for mild/asymptomatic COVID patients at erstwhile LOHIA HOSPITAL. Due to the absence of good healthcare facilities barring Medical College Hospital in the area, many residents had to depend on private hospitals in south Kolkata, Salt Lake or off the EM Bypass during the pandemic. This new Covid satellite health facility will be of immense help to the locals to a large extent.
Charncok Hospital has separate buildings, separate entry and exit for Covid and Non-Covid patients. Due to this Infrastructural benefit, Covid and Non-Covid patients inflow can be managed pretty well separately. The Hospital has been doing a great job by contributing the most significant services to treat COVID patients and curing them.
