Paediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the medical care of infants, children and adolescents and the age limit usually ranges from birth up to 18 years of age. The Department of Neonatology and Paediatrics at Charnock Hospital includes dedicated Consultants, Registrars and NICU trained Medical Officers. The nursing staffs are also specially trained to handle neonates and children.

The department includes :
• Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Isolation Room for infected neonates
• Separate Paediatric unit, manned by trained Paediatric nurses and Paediatric Consultants(On call)
• Paediatric Surgery

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
• Provide high and intermediate dependency care for all neonates delivered at the hospital and outside - The advanced level III NICU helps to complement the high risk pregnancy cases. This is capable of taking care of all critically ill neonates, premature and of extremely low birth weight. This include support for neonatal resuscitation at delivery, management of problems like neonatal jaundice and supportive care for high risk infants like those born to mothers with diseases complicating pregnancy.
• Develop a comprehensive training centre in Neonatology

(a) Provide training for Paediatricians in neonatal intensive care, develop community Neonatology modules and undertake research in topics of interest in Neonatology.

(b) Provide training for nurses in all aspects of neonatal care, impart short-term courses for nurses in neonatal intensive care nursing and become a nodal point for continuing medical and nursing education.

Paediatric Unit
• A general Paediatric set-up to primarily tackle all common Paediatric Emergencies and inpatients as per accepted treatment protocols.
• Pleasant inpatient surroundings with Mother and Child composite care units.
• A Paediatric ICU is also in the pipeline for critically ill patients.
• Develop a comprehensive training centre in Paediatrics.
